Abstract

The grafting in the improvement of fruit production and quality in vegetables has been extensively investigated, however, the seeds quality contained in fruits and subsequent development of seedlings has been little studied. The aim was to evaluate the seeds and seedlings quality obtained from grafted and ungrafted plants. The treatments were condition of grafted and ungrafted plant in watermelon and green beans. The experimental design was completely randomized with four repetitions. In seed quality it was quantified length, width and weight of 100 seeds. Also was determined seed germination percentage with and without aging, normal and abnormal germination, and main root length. In seedling it was quantified emergency speed index, seedling length, stem diameter and leaf area. Analysis of variance and comparison of Tukey means (P ≤ 0,05) was performed. The results in seed and seedling quality were statistically similar, therefore, it is concluded that grafting does not influence seed and seedling quality.
