The past, present and future of demography and the role of the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research

Abstract

Demography, within the memories of those now living, has been shaped by a few out-standing centers, the Institut National d'Etudes Démographiques, the Cambridge Group for the History of Population and Social Structure, and the Princeton Office of Population Research. The Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research, whose new building received a festive dedication on 31 March 2003, now joins this distinguished family. © 2003 Max-Planck-Geselllschaft.
