Abstract

With the objective of commercializing fuel cells for oil and gas, telecommunications and mobile applications, Global Thermoelectric has been developing a low cost, low temperature (600° to 700°C) solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC). Anode supported planar cells are made using high volume manufacturing processes such as tape casting, slip casting and screen printing. Excellent performance at low temperatures has been obtained (over 550 mW/cm2 at 700°C) with cells containing thin (5 to 10 micron) 8 mol.% yttria stabilized zirconia electrolyte. The manufacturing and performance of planar anode supported SOFC made at Global Thermoelectric will be described in this paper.
