Abstract

Scinaia halliae (Scinaiaceae, Rhodophyta) is analysed morphologically and taxonomically from the coast of Espírito Santo and Bahia, Brazil. Specimens were collected on the intertidal and in infralitoral zones from 16 m depth through a dredge Holme. Descriptions and illustrations are presented, as well as comments on habitat and geographical distribution in the Brazilian coast. This study confirms that Scinaia brasiliensis Joly & Cordeiro-Marino is synonym of S. halliae (Setchell) Huismann, and this species is recorded, for the first time, from the coast of Bahia.
