Abstract

Red chili is a horticultural commodity that has high economic value and is widely cultivated by farmers in Indonesia. Red chili farming in Indonesia still faces various obstacles, both technical and economic constraints. This study aims to determine the effect of the use of production factors and analyze the efficiency of the use of production factors in red chili farming in Wuluhan District, Jember Regency. The survey was conducted on 60 sample farmers who cultivated red chili in the April-September 2017. The samples were selected using the simple random sampling method. The analytical tool used in this study is a production function with a stochastic frontier approach. The results of the study shows that the value of technical efficiency, price efficiency, and economic efficiency are 0,92; 1,49; and 1,94. This indicates that red chili farming in Wuluhan District, Jember Regency has not been efficient. The value of return to scale on red chili farming is 1.94, which indicates that red chili farming in Wuluhan District, Jember Regency is in an increasing return to scale.
