Abstract

It has been concluded that pemphigus and bullous pemphigoid represent autoimmune diseases of skin in which local activation of complement and, perhaps, immune complex formation occur. Whether local complement activation and immune complex formation contribute to the pathogenesis of these diseases, however, must still be determined.
