This is a descriptive study that aimed to investigate the working conditions of rural workers and their interface with the risk of illness, considering the knowledge and beliefs of 22 workers in the field, from a region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul/BR. Data were collected in the first semester of 2009, through interviews with the subjects. The thematic analysis was the methodology used on their treatment, from which two categories emerged: Major health injuries and risks of rural workers; Use of pesticides; and Use of personal protective equipment.
