Abstract

Trivalent lanthanides can be synergistically extracted from aqueous solution as mixed ligand complexes with HFAA and TOPO with the general formula, Ln(HFAA)3-2TOPO. The optimum conditions for extraction like equilibration time, pH, effect of solvent, metal ion concentration, and reagent concentration were established. The solvent extraction by mixed ligand system can be used for the preparation of volatile gas chromatographable lanthanide complexes.
