Abstract

This paper aims to study the necessity and feasibility of introducing Hall System Methodology into user participatory design activities. Based on the Hall three dimensional structure, from the knowledge dimension, time dimension, and logic dimension respectively, it discusses user feedback processing for when to utilize a participatory design approach. It also shows how to optimize the design process, formulating a preliminary user participatory design 2W1H (WHO,WHEN,HOW) model. Through following up the product development process of the sharing-refrigerator, it demonstrate the availability of user participatory design 2W1H model of screening mainstream users, key users and potential users according to the product audience classification, guaranteeing reasonable user feedback in the whole life of the product, with the product always oriented by the users’ demand, which will provide a systematic theoretical guidance for the user problems in the process of product development.
