Abstract

Prosthetic replacement of shoulder joint is relatively uncommon procedure. Patients having displaced fractures of the proximal humerus with excessive comminution, interrupted vascularity and expected articular in-congruity are the cases likely to be considered for prosthetic replacement of humeral head. Many arthritic patients having condition like Rheumatoid arthritis, Osteoarthritis or Avascular necrosis are the candidates for total shoulder arthroplasty. The present paper details the history, indications, prosthetic design, short surgical procedure, complications and status of shoulder arthroplasty in Indian context.
