Abstract
This study aims to describe the patterns of academic procrastination among students who use TikTok, identify the internal and external factors influencing this behavior, and examine the effectiveness of a self-control–based intervention within a Guidance and Counseling context. Employing a qualitative case study design, the research involved one counselee, referred to as AS, at SMK Negeri 10 Makassar. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observations, and document analysis, and analyzed using Bogdan’s interactive data analysis model. The findings indicate that AS’s academic procrastination is triggered by low task-specific academic motivation, weak self-regulation, and digital distractions from TikTok. External factors, including peer influence and the ease of accessing social media, further reinforce the tendency to delay academic tasks. The consequences include decreased academic performance, heightened anxiety, and reduced self-confidence. A self-control intervention delivered across six counseling sessions produced positive changes, reflected in improved time management and reduced TikTok usage. These findings suggest that procrastination in the digital era emerges from the interaction between self-regulatory deficits and persuasive media design.
