Abstract

Although teaching for citizenship has long been a part of student affairs philosophical statements, the actual level of emphasis on this goal is questionable. In order to encourage active civic engagement (including social activism and political dissent) among undergraduates, student affairs professionals must first study the relevant issues, including social justice, global politics, and neoliberalism. A required course for master’s students in higher education is discussed.
