Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of correlation of ethnicity issues among novice voters and their participation rate in the 2019-2024 North Maluku Governor Election Period. This study uses descriptive non-parametric methods with quantitative approach. The data collection was conducted with survey techniques, and the research location at the Campus of Muhammadiyah University of North Maluku (UMMU) in Ternate City, with the analysis unit being students of semester II. Data analysis used in this study uses two ways, namely descriptive and inferential, inferential statistics using correlational analysis and influence analysis or regression. The results of the correlation test can be concluded that identity politics played by paslons through the issue of closeness / ethnic similarity and kinship relationships exhaled during the campaign does not affect the behavior of novice voters. This is because the perception of ethnicity by respondents who view ethnicity as important when it comes to political decisions but on the contrary ethnicity when it comes to social activities becomes unimportant.
