Abstract

Power line communication technology is one of the power line specific functions that can be utilized by the grid for real-time monitoring of the grid operation status. This paper presents an impedance estimation technique based on power line communication to track and predict the input impedance and use the predicted impedance for fault identification. Three typical topological network structures are adopted to derive the results under different fault impedances. The simulations show that the fault can be well identified, indicating that the impedance estimation technique can not only monitor the impedance in real time, but also identify the types of faults.
