Abstract

An alkali-metal magnetometer which completely eliminates spin exchange as a source of relaxation was described. A resonance linewidth of 1.1 Hz for K atoms at a density of n = 1014 cm-3 was obtained. A magnetic field sensitivity of 10 fT Hz-1/2 limited only by thermal noise currents was also obtained.
