The auto‐oxidation product of apomorphine has been isolated. On the basis of elemental analysis, spectral evidence, as well as solubility and chromatographic behavior, it appears to be devoid of nitrogen, possibly an 8‐substituted phenanthrene‐3,4‐dione. A scheme is suggested for the degradative process. The decomposition product has no emetic property. Copyright © 1961 Wiley‐Liss, Inc., A Wiley Company
