Abstract

This study aimed to describe the characteristics of municipal sports management and assess whether the municipal human development index influences the development of educational, performance or recreational sports policies. The study employs a quantitative approach and is an ex post facto study. The research was conducted by gathering data from the 2016 Municipal Basic Information Survey and the 2010 Demographic Census, white were compiled by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics. The research revealed that there is a difference in the education levels between men and women holding managerial positions, and in general, it underscored the importance of managers having technical knowledge to carry out their tasks. Furthermore, it can be observed that there is a greater tendency to implement performance sports activities when municipalities have a higher Municipal Human Development Index.
