Abstract

Normally, blast furnace and COREX operate with all tuyeres. However, often, for various reasons it is required to operate the furnace by blocking one or multiple tuyeres. This induces asymmetric transport phenomena at the environs of the blocked tuyere. A 3D mathematical model of the COREX melter gasifier has been developed analyzing this phenomenon. Predicted result shows that even though there exists asymmetry around the blocked tuyere zone, the hot metal temperature is not affected significantly. © 2006 ISIJ.
