Abstract

The analysis of the data obtained through different sources is presented along with reflections about the behavior of the production of scientific publications in engineering. Likewise, suggestions are proposed in order to improve the failures shown in the existing model of classification of Publindex-Colciencias Journals. The problematic situation given by the implementation of the new model of scientific journals classification in Colombia made it necessary to study the behavior of some of the most internationally used metrics (h-index and SJR) and nationally (Publindex) of Colombian Journals in Engineering. Among the most relevant conclusions are the fact that there are journals with a higher h5-index, classified on a lower category and that is a low number of citations in spite of the high amount of published works. Among the most relevant conclusions are the fact that there are journals with a higher h5-index, classified on a lower category and that there are low citations despite the large amount of published works.
