Although the local activation of blood coagulation during the initial phase of hematogenous metastasis formation seems to be established, the pathogenic significance of this event is still not fully understood. Fibrin formation, platelet aggregation and fibrinolysis are just the visible steps of multiple enzymatic processes with the generation of many pharmacologically active intermediate products which, for their part, may be of some importance in the formation of metastases from blood borne cancer cells.
