Developments in the world of communication systems certainly change the pattern of communication that occurs in society. The leap in the development of communication and information technology also changed the existing communication patterns. New media which is a new part of people's lives naturally has its own uniqueness in the communication process. One application today that accommodates multimedia exchanges is Whatsapp. By Jan Koum, Whatsapp is equipped with various features, one of which is the read receipts feature. But by some users the feature is disabled, so that it can reduce or hinder the communication process. The use of this feature becomes an interesting research that can be done, by prioritizing the discovery of user motivation that actually disables the feature. This research uses qualitative research. Research that includes collecting empirical data from research subjects is the Whatsapp application. Then the data is analyzed to get an understanding of the subject of the study faced. Through this study the researchers found that the communication process that occurs in Whatsapp application users who disable the read receipts feature is not as effective as compared to users who enable this feature. The motivation of users who deactivate the read receipts feature when using the Whatsapp application includes negotiating which communication process will be chosen to proceed. In this case, the agency practice is carried out by the user to determine the position in each desired communication process.
