Abstract

Aim: To investigate chemical constituents of the roots of Euphorbia kansui. Methods: Compounds were isolated by repeated column chromatography on silica gel. Structures were elucidated on the basis of spectral analysis and comparison with literature data. Results: Eight compounds were isolated and identified as 3-O-benzoyl-13-O-dodecanoyl-20-O-acetyl-ingenol (1), 3-O-(2, 3- dimethylbutanoyl)-13-O-dodecanoyl-20-deoxy-ingenol (2), 3-O-(2, 3-dimethylbutanoyl)-13-O-dodecanoyl-ingenol (3), 3-O- (2′ E, 4′ Z-decadienoyl)-20-O-acetyl-ingenol (4), 3-O-(2′ E, 4′ E-decadienoyl)-ingenol (5), cycloeucalenol (6), 24-methylenelanost-9 (11)-en-3β-ol (7) and 7-hydroxy-6-methoxycoumarin (8). Conclusion: Compound 1 is a new ingenane-type diterpenoid ester, and compounds 5 - 8 have been isolated from this plant for the first time. Compounds 2 - 5 show cytotoxicity on Namalwa cells with IC50 values of 12.9, 11.9, 7.6 and 5.2 μmol·L-1, respectively.
