Abstract

Background: In patients with chronic kidney disease, the presence of reactive renal cells has been reported. These cells present several morphological alterations that hinder their classification and interpretation. Therefore, the specific knowledge of its morphological characteristics and sediments patterns can be helpful for their management in the corresponding medical departments. Methodology: We reported the presence of spherical cells grouped in acinar configuration with abundant cytoplasm, cariomegaly, slightly irregular nuclear contours and prominent nucleoli, accompanied with cilindruria and fatty oval bodies in the urinary sediment of two patients with Diabetes Mellitus type 2, these cells were suggested as reactive renal cells. Conclusions: Reactive renal cells could be associated with renal problems; to which, the appropriated clinical interpretation of the finding in the urinary sediment will avoid false positives during diagnosis.
