Abstract

This article discusses the problem of cultural consumption in the field of Argentine folk music, based on the theme Añoration by the group Vinales. This theme caused great controversy about the limits of innovation in contemporary folklore, and even whether something like this was possible or should be allowed. But it is particularly notable for the question of the impact of global culture on this genre, given that it is an English version of the classic theme of the well-known group Los Manceros Santiagueños called Añoranzas. The original musical composition is practically a hymn from Santiago del Estero (Argentina), so this case is key to addressing the issues of globalization, cultural consumption and cultural identity in the region.
