Abstract

Shallots are non-substitutable food commodities so their availability must be sufficient. Almost all regions of Indonesia have the potential to produce shallots, but the high production of shallots does not guarantee the high income received by farmers. This study aims to determine (1) the level of production and the factors that influence it, (2) the level of income and the factors that influence it, (3) the level of risk of onion farming. The study was conducted in Sokobanah District, Sampang Regency with the consideration that Sokobanah District is one of the largest shallot-producing districts or areas on Madura Island, with a total sample of 30 samples. The analytical method used consists of multiple linear regression analysis and coefficient of variation (CV) analysis. Based on the results of the study showed that, the level of production of shallots is still low with an average production of 5.6 tons/ha. The factors that affect the production of shallots are land area and number of seedlings. The level of income is quite high with an average income of Rp. 161,636,775/Ha/MT, the factors that affect the income of shallot farmers are land rent costs. The coefficient of variation (CV) of production risk is 0.283 and income risk is 0.386. Based on these findings, farmers should use production inputs optimally, so as to increase production and income.
