This work starts from the wrong belief that scientific knowledge offers a detailed picture of the world in which we live and it shows the paths to immerse us in him. Next, structures and processes of science are analysed to allow perceiving how is produced the rapprochement of science to reality. Specifically, theories, concepts, models and scientific explanations are examined from epistemological bases that are founded in the history of science. It is concluded that the scientists' theoretical constructions are always provisional, and they allow approximation to the real world and to move forward in its research programs, but are independent of reality and do not copy it. © Sociedade Brasileira de Física.
