Abstract
The RETERO project revolves around developments of modern, scientific methods with the aim of significantly reducing and, in the long term, completely replacing animal experiments for assessing the risk of harm to fish in turbine passages. Initial ethohydraulic investigations of fish in accelerated flows at the Hubert-Engels-Laboratory of the TU Dresden were done to observe their reactions in a controlled environment. These findings provided the project's collaborative partners with a sound basis for e.g. the development of an autonomous robotic fish for risk assessment or development of software-based damage prediction models.
