Abstract

The main objective of this paper is to research the potential of bamboo as building material for various structures especially in buildings. During the research, I tried to put up facts regarding properties of bamboo as building material and comparison with conventional building material based on literature from India and abroad. Building construction activities consumes a lot of resources in terms of material or monitory aspects to procure it. If we may able to use bamboo as main stream building material and cut short the construction bills in big way that will be an excellent situation for clients, farmers who produces bamboo etc. The most encouraging and important aspect is we can reduce 'Carbon foot print' of construction process, as bamboo is 'Natural material with very low embodied energy' to save our planet Earth from the menace of 'Global Warming' with reference to present concern of the whole world and individual 'Climate change and Carbon emission'. Another objective of this paper is to spread awareness through academic platform amongst all stakeholders related to building construction and common man.
