Abstract
This article continues the dialogue in a two-part series of JWM focused on “Reimagining STEM higher education research.” The 10 articles in the series call for members of the STEM education community to examine the STEM education system more critically and holistically. Issue 2 includes five articles that encourage the use of critical, theoretical, and methodological approaches; honor STEM students’ funds of identity; and center ways of knowing for Black women and craft a common agenda for the advancement of Black Americans in STEM. Collectively, these articles highlight the importance of criticality as we approach STEM education, including the need to acknowledge systematic oppressions, shift forms of power to marginalized communities, and center liberatory methodological and practical approaches for collective impact.
