Abstract

In a context of radicalisation of the police politics regarding the contention and the repression of the "urban renewal zone" since at least a decade, leaning on the results of a long sociological survey carried out conjointly with the police schools and the working-class areas, this article analyses the reality of the relationship between the police and the inhabitants of these areas. In actual fact, from the study of representations, of ways of action and interactions of police officers, of social workers and inhabitants of areas considered as dangerous, we describe then the processes that produce a mistrust relationship and reciprocal reification, interrogate the socialisation and mobilisation in the use of police force and formulate a few recommendation to move from a "war police" to a "peace police".
