Abstract

Fenestrella japonica, a new species of the family Eremulidae (Acari: Oribatida) is described from Okinawa Island, southwestern Japan. In the genus Fenestrella two species have been known from Asia, F. bifurcata Mahunka, 1987 from Vietnam and F. sinica Zhao and Wen, 1994 from China. The new species, F. japonica, is the third species of the genus and is distinguishable from the known two species by the peculiar ring-like structure of chain in the posterior half of notogaster.
