NCtorrent: Peer to Peer File Sharing Over Named Data Networking Using Network Coding

Abstract

Network coding is a technique which allows nodes to encode and decode the transmitted data which leads to robust network, reduce delay, and increase network throughput. Named Data Networking (NDN) is an entirely a new architecture in which communication is based on the name of the desired content. This paper proposes a new peer to peer system, called NCtorrent, in which network coding is used over named date network. The proposed system allows peers to share large files between each other. The simulation results show that, NCtorrent reduces downloading time, increases cache hit ratio and reduces NACK compared to other previous work. For example, NCtorrent achieves an average time reduction of 36% compared to other peer-to-peer enabled NDN systems. Moreover, the cache hit ratio is increased by 11%. The number of NACK is reduced by 70%. All experimental results are compared to other previous work.
