‘Nada é igual’. variações sobre a relação afroindígena

Abstract

This text aims to go back to some points of the so-called Afroindigenous relation in order to situate the issue and dispel misunderstandings. To this end, it seeks to explain the fundamental points that constitute the notion, and then examines some ethnographic cases — treated as situated theories — that the notion can illuminate at the same time that it is illuminated by them. From these cases, the focus turns to the complexity and potential of the notion of ‘turning’ [‘virar’] as thought and formulated in Afro-Brazilian religions. This procedure opens a discussion about the place and the importance of images in this and other contexts, as and connects it with recent debates around a possible ‘ontological turn’ in anthropology.
