Sobre la autonomía de los genes

Abstract

During the last decades we have been present at the unstoppable advance of the genetics, which discoveries have provoked the interest of philosophers of biology. Nevertheless, the question “what is a gene?” continues without a definitive answer and doesn't exist a clear and univocal positioning on the part of scientists. Sometimes the gene has been thought as autonomous agent, the leader of evolution and organismic development, but the current genomic science draws a totally different scene and objects some of the scientific established metaphors.Durante las últimas décadas hemos asistido al avance imparable de la genética y los descubrimientos en este campo han suscitado el interés creciente de los filósofos de la biología. No obstante, la pregunta ¿qué es un gen? sigue sin una respuesta definitiva y no existe un posicionamiento claro y unívoco por parte de la ciencia. En algunos momentos se ha llegado a considerar el gen como una especie de agente autónomo, responsable último de la evolución y del desarrollo organísmico, pero la nueva ciencia genómica dibuja un panorama diferente y ha empezado a cuestionar algunas de las metáforas científicas más comunes.
