The use of historical maps for monitoring fluvial morphological adjustments within the river floodplain may experience some problems, most of them related to georeferencing documents with different scales and coordinate systems. For the Vega Media of the Segura River (VMS) there are cartographic sources from the 19th and 20th centuries that need an appropriate georeferencing process, prior to any fluvial pattern analysis. This contribution presents an approach for the complete georeferencing of series of antique VMS maps, based on the two-dimensional Helmert transformation. Subsequently, the images are individually cropped, and then merged in order to generate continuous mosaics. Keywords:
