Abstract

The document analyses the urban carrying capacity for Bogotá Colombia. This is understood, from the physical point of view, as the ability of a territory to support human activities without generating negative externalities derived from its overuse (Wei et al., 2015). Based on a quantitative approach, an evaluation methodology is applied to urban sectors, in order to obtain capacity estimates for six dimensions of analysis. Results show the heterogeneity of urban supports, comparing physical and economic facts, especially for areas with higher population density, less access to economic centers and limited urban planning. This suggests the need to focus local policies at the identified areas, in relation to neighbourhood improvement or urban renewal. This would allow the completion of deficit supports, improving access to urban goods and services and expanding the scope of economic activity in the city.
