Abstract

Museology as cultural practice, museum as cultural institution and museum communication as cultural activity has been discussed under the concept of 'media museum/ology' among researchers who have recognized that circulating digital representations of tangible cultural contents in cyberspace offer new oppurtinities. It may be included these kind of discussions by claiming that media museum has a broader conceptual extension which can also explain the experiencing of various social media platforms which enable the representation and the presentation of intangible cultural content as a museum enviroment. When dealt with in this context, it can be argued that YouTube which is the principal symbol of new media technologies and their culture can be experience as a museum sphere that enables the presentation, the archiving and the representation of traditional cultural contents. This thesis statement has been explored specific to an interdisciplinary perspective which is consisted of the synthesis of social media theory, media ritual theory and performance theory.
