Methods have been developed by MTU Friedrichshafen to provide an increase of about 40% in M. E. P. , with no dimensional increase and involving only slight modifications to engine components that have been in use for many years. A design review of the company's diesel engines is presented in this article. Cylinder cutout and charge transfer systems, sequential turbocharging, and operating characteristics are described.
