Abstract

The objective of the study was to assess the perception of the quality of life in older adult persons (OA) from two institutions attending this population. Participants were 100 OA between 60 to 98 years (M = 70.90 ± 9.19 yr.) distributed in two groups: a) Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de losTrabajadores del Estado (ISSSTE, n = 50), y b) Ciudad del Anciano (n = 50). For the analysis of data, a multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) was performed, due to the 6 dimensions of the WHOQOL-OLD instrument for the quality of life. Two dimensions showed statistical significance (p d» 0.05), sensory abilities (SAB), and social participation (SOP). In conclusion, the biggest adults on the ISSST had a higher perception of the SAB dimension question; in contrast to the AM of Ciudad del Anciano. In analyzing the dimension of SOP, the opposite happens, the larger adults in Ciudad del Anciano reported a higher perception than the AM of the ISSSTE.
