Desigualdad, Clase media y territorio en Chile: ¿clase media global o múltiples mesocracias según territorios?

Abstract

This article analyzes the inequalities between social classes based on sub-national territories in Chile, contributing to the discussion on whether or not there is a single, discernable process of mesocratization. The urbanization process is analyzed, distinguishing between different territories according to their job markets, in which different middle classes live and develop their job-related activities. Definitions of the middle class are reviewed from the point of view of income and occupation, and consequently applied to the established territories, arguing that the middle class has particular characteristics according to each of the territories considered.
