Abstract

An investigation on the avialability and distribution of lindane(HCHS) and total organochlorine phosphate(TOCP)in the surfaace water and sediment of selected water boddies in Agbede wetland was carried out in December,2012 to may 2014 in order to cover seasonal trend in matrix. a gaschromatogrph model hewlette- packard (hp9)5890 series 11 equipment with 63 NI Electron Capture Detector(ECD) of activity 15 MCi WITH AN AUTO SAMPLer was employed for the analysis of the water and sediment samplesin the laboratoryunder standard condition.spatial and temporal variation showed that the concentrationof TOPCclosely followed that of lindane in surface water and was a replica in the sediment.Mainwhile the value obtain for lindane and TOPC in the sediment were slightly higherthan (about 3 fold) that in the surface wate. The concentration of pesticides in the surface water and sediment of lotic and lentic ecosystem in Agbede wetland were found to be far below set limit of 0.01 by the federal ministry of environment of nigeria
