A spectrofluorimetric method for the determination of two fluoroquinolone drugs, ofloxacin and lomefloxacin in biological fluids has been developed. The method is based on native fluorescence of these drugs in micellar medium of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). The wavelengths of excitation and maximum emission were 295 nm and 485 nm for ofloxacin, and 285 nm and 449 nm for lomefloxacin, respectively. The method allows the determination of 10-1,000 ng mL-1 of ofloxacin and 20-2,000 ng mL-1 of lomefloxacin in a 0.1 M acetic acid-sodium acetate buffer solution of pH 6. The SDS concentration of 0.01 M was selected for both the drugs. The method was successfully applied to determination of the two drugs in human urine and serum samples.
