Abstract

The general objective of the research is to carry out a preliminary analysis of the results of public policies that have been proposed to develop sustainable tourism in the historical center of Santiago de Querétaro. The public policy chosen for this analysis is one promoted in the period 2012-2018 by the Ministry of Tourism (sectur) under the name “Competitiveness Schedule for the Development of Tourism in Mexico”, specifically the one developed for Santiago de Querétaro (acdtmq). This initiative is aligned with the three levels of government, where higher education institutions and the host community participated. Methodologically, the first goal of the Action Plan of the acdtmq is analyzed because it is aimed at tourism sustainability: “To develop a sustainable tourism, preserving the natural and cultural wealth of Mexico”, through government reports, interviews with public servants, businessmen, merchants, tourists and inhabitants of the historical center in addition to ‘in situ’ observation.
