Abstract

The purpose of this research was to describe the Values Formation Approaches underlying the teaching practice of ethics and values teachers in some public and private high schools from Manizales city, taking into account the theoretical contributions made by some authors in relation to value formation. A qualitative research method was predominantly used, since its main objective was the description of the characteristics of a phenomenon. This research method also includes a quantitative element such as the survey, besides the results were descriptive and the type of analysis was done based on statistical data. Ethics and values teachers from the city were surveyed and interviewed, and the gathered data were analyzed subsequently. This study starts from the assumption of the lack of knowledge about the methodologies, approaches and principles related to the formation of values by ethics and values teachers; therefore, its main contribution was to demonstrate that, in the practice of teaching, they work more from an empirical and pragmatic perspective rather than from a theoretical and a conceptual perspective. This fact supposes a gap, since there is not a previous knowledge that supports and strengthens the values teaching in the classroom.
