Abstract : Newspapers are getting worse in Indonesia. Nielsen's survey in 2014 and 2017 showed the decline. This research wants to know the interest of student's consumption towards print media. The qualitative method was chosen because it can describe the choice of informants deeply. Data collection techniques used in this research are documentation and interviews with journalism students in Malang with Uses and Gratification Theory. The results revealed that Malang journalism students' interest in reading print was low. Student motives which include information needs and diversity are not met. Likewise in print media usage part is very rarely because of the difficulties in gaining access and having to buy or subscribe. The effect is most of the informants say that print media cannot fill their needs, so they turn to online media. Keywords : Motive, Print Media, Journalism Student, Uses and Gratification Abstrak : Surat kabar kian terpuruk di Indonesia. Survei Nielsen pada tahun 2014 dan 2017 menunjukkan penurunan tersebut. Penelitian ini ingin mengetahui minat konsumsi mahasiswa terhadap media cetak. Metode kualitatif dipilih karena bisa menggambarkan pilihan informan secara mendalam. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan dokumentasi dan wawancara pada mahasiswa jurnalistik di Kota Malang dengan Teori Usess and Gratification. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa minat baca media cetak pada mahasiswa jurnalistik di Kota Malang rendah. Motif mahasiswa yang meliputi kebutuhan informasi maupun diversitas tidak terpenuhi. Begitupula di bidang penggunaan media cetak sangat jarang karena kesulitan mendapatkan akses serta harus membeli atau berlangganan. Efeknya, sebagian besar informan mengatakan media cetak tidak dapat memenuhi kebutuhan mereka sehingga beralih ke media online.
