Abstract

The environment is still suffering serious attacks: fires, pollution, deforestation and illegal hunting, are only some of the problems that threaten the natural environment and that, after decades of evolution of environmental law, are still without solution. It is undeniable the effect that environmental conditions have over humanity, for that reason, in order to ensure the survival of human beings and the living beings that share the planet with us, maybe it is time for international criminal law to intervene. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to approach the current situation of environment in international criminal law and humanitarian law, as well as the different possibilities to create an international crime against the environment under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.
