Abstract

The Blue Economy (BE) is attracting increased global attention, but there are differing opinions as to how it is defined and what it entails. The recent publica-tion, Preparing a Workforce for the New Blue Economy: People, Products and Policies (Hotaling & Spinrad, 2021), puts forth an explicit definition of the New BE, which has sustainability and social justice at its core. The importance of lan-guage and of including Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in the development of the BE is discussed here.
