There are a range of different philosophies and methodologies which can be used to design a space mission architecture. However, at present none have consistently proven successful outcomes in space missions and are varying in their implementation and outcomes. Notably in the space industry, design for objectives, design for capacity, design for budget, and design for value are the popular philosophies that used in designing mission architectures. Most design methods uses requirement-based engineering design methodology with design philosophies. This paper presents a critical review of each design methodology supported by a simple example and suggests a suitable space mission architecture design methodology.
