Abstract

This chapter aims to describe the context of diversity in Chile by presenting a panorama of recent trends that have raised concerns and actions regarding the issue. Immigration’ flows in last years have changed what used to be considered the ethnographic outlook in the Chilean society; which along with social movements and demands have raised the need for further action on the protection and the promotion of diversity. A thorough analysis of the legislation and academic research in the country shows that both the legal framework and the scholar realm is still in an early phase. We can define this stage as of the discovery of the nature of this “new” diversity, measuring it, describing it, containing it; from which might be possible to ground further developments towards diversity management.
