Datos y reflexiones sobre el sector agrario canario

Abstract

This article systematises data and analyses on the Canarian agrarian sector. The study of these data suggests a series of reflections framed in the colonial context of the Canary Islands, which has conditioned its history, economy and culture, as well as its agrarian processes. One of the most important milestones for this sector occurred in the 1960s, when the farming sector decline began in the Canary Islands in the face of the huge growth of the service sector, driven by the phenomenon of tourism. The sources consulted and the systematisation carried out place us in the debate that oscillates between dependence and sovereignty, and thus in the agrarian policies developed in this Atlantic archipelago (located approximately 100 km from the African continent and politically and administratively dependent on the Spanish State).
